Spring 2018 Pikes In Print - Bruce Thatcher’s latest work, Rise and Decline: Where We Are and What We Can Do About It shows that the real reasons for a nation’s rise and decline are more basic than military or economic successes and failures. They have to do with founding values and the degree to which the citizens let those values guide the workings of the nation. As founding values become ignored or disdained by its citizenry, any nation declines and dies (at least in its founding form).
